Free QR Code Generator

Make a free QR code for a link, text, or Wi-Fi login. Pick colors and error correction, then download a PNG or SVG. No sign-up and no expiry.

How to use the QR Code Generator

  1. Choose Link or text, or Wi-Fi login.
  2. Type your link or text, or enter your network name and password.
  3. Check the preview, then download the PNG for printing or sharing, or the SVG for a sharp, scalable file.
  4. Scan the code with your phone camera to test it before you print it.

Tips for a QR code that scans every time

  • Use dark on light. A black code on a white background is the safest choice. Inverted codes (light on dark) fail on many scanners.
  • Keep the quiet zone. The empty border around the code helps scanners find it, so do not crop it off.
  • Shorten long links. Fewer characters make a simpler pattern that is easier to read at small sizes.
  • Test before you print. Scan it with two different phones, from the distance people will use.
  • Use SVG for big prints. An SVG stays sharp on posters and signs, while a PNG is fine for screens and small prints.

How to scan a QR code

Open your phone camera and point it at the code. Tap the link or banner that appears. On most iPhones and Android phones you do not need a separate app.

Stay safe with QR codes

Anyone can print a QR code, so a sticker pasted over a real one can send you to a fake site. Check the web address your phone shows before you open it, never enter passwords or card details after scanning a code from a stranger, and be careful with codes in unexpected emails or texts. If you get a surprise "missed delivery" message, read our guide on a package that says delivered but is not here. Before you install an app from a link, see how to check an APK for viruses.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, and no expiry date. The codes are static, so they point straight to your link or text and keep working as long as that link does.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The QR code is built in your browser, so the link, text, or Wi-Fi password you type never leaves your device.

What does error correction mean?

A QR code carries extra data so it can still scan if part of it is dirty or covered. Low restores about 7% of damage, Medium 15%, Quartile 25%, and High 30%. Higher levels make a denser code, so use Medium for most jobs and High if you plan to put a logo over the center.

How do I make a QR code for Wi-Fi?

Choose Wi-Fi login, enter the network name and password, and pick the security type your router uses (usually WPA). Phones that scan the code can offer to join the network without typing the password.

What size should I print a QR code?

Print it at least about 1 inch (2 to 3 cm) wide, and bigger if people will scan from farther away. Leave the blank border around the code, and keep strong contrast between the code and its background.

Why will my QR code not scan?

The usual causes are low contrast, a code that is too small, a very long link that makes the pattern too dense, or a light code on a dark background. Shorten the link, use a dark code on a white background, and test it before you print.
