Frequently asked questions
Is one dog year really seven human years?
No. That is an old myth. Dogs grow up much faster early in life. The first year is about 15 human years, the second adds about 9, and after that each year adds about 4 to 7 depending on size.
Why do big dogs age faster?
Large and giant breeds tend to have shorter lives and reach their senior years sooner than small dogs, so each year after age 2 counts for more human years.
When is a dog a senior?
Small dogs are often considered seniors around age 7, while large breeds may be seniors at 5 or 6. Ask your vet about senior checkups.
