How business days are counted
A business day here is any Monday to Friday that is not a US federal holiday and not on your own list of days off. The start date is day zero. Day 1 is the next business day after it, so an order placed on a Friday has its first business day on Monday.
Two examples:
- 10 business days from Friday, December 18, 2026 is Tuesday, January 5, 2027. Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) and New Year's Day (Friday, January 1) are skipped. With holidays turned off, the answer is Friday, January 1, 2027.
- 5 business days before Monday, July 6, 2026 is Friday, June 26, 2026. Independence Day falls on a Saturday in 2026, so it is observed on Friday, July 3 and skipped.

The holiday list follows 5 U.S.C. 6103 as published by the US Office of Personnel Management. Inauguration Day, January 20 every four years, is a holiday only for federal employees in the Washington, DC area, so it is not included. Use the custom list for it, for state holidays, for bank holidays that differ, or for company closures.
Business days, working days and calendar days
Business days and working days mean the same thing here. Calendar days include weekends and holidays. A deadline of "10 business days" is usually about two calendar weeks, and longer when a holiday falls inside it.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a business day?
In this calculator, Monday to Friday, except US federal holidays and any days off you add. Saturdays and Sundays never count. Some carriers, banks and contracts define business days differently, so check the terms that apply to you.
Which US holidays are skipped?
The 11 federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. A holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one on a Sunday on the Monday after.
Is the start date counted?
When you add business days, the start date is day zero and day 1 is the next business day. When you count between two dates, the start is day zero by default. Tick the option to count it too, which matches Excel's NETWORKDAYS.
How is this different from Excel WORKDAY and NETWORKDAYS?
WORKDAY adds business days to a start date and does not count the start, which matches the add mode here. NETWORKDAYS counts the days between two dates and includes both the start and end dates, which matches the Count the start date too option.
Does 3 to 5 business days include weekends?
No. An order placed on Monday, November 2, 2026 reaches 3 business days on Thursday, November 5 and 5 business days on Monday, November 9. Holidays move it later, so a Monday, November 23 order reaches 5 business days on Tuesday, December 1 because Thanksgiving is skipped.
