Tools are called herramientas in Spanish. One tool is una herramienta, and a toolbox is una caja de herramientas.
Hammer is el martillo. A sledgehammer is la almádena, and a mallet is el mazo.
Screwdriver is el destornillador. In Mexico many people also say el desarmador. A Phillips screwdriver is el destornillador de cruz.
Not always. Many are the same, but some differ, such as la cubeta in Mexico and el balde in much of South America for a bucket. This list notes the common variants.
